Lads, time to appreciate it is time for the ladies to enjoy the benefits of the lads we worship week in week out for their ball skills. Over to you girls, do you agree with our top ten sex symbols in the history the beautiful game?
1. George Best - The original playboy, he sets the standard for all the modern pretenders. Voted by GQ as one of the most stylish men of the last fifty years, wherever he went he was followed by adoring, screaming girls for his Irish charm and obvious arrogance. Had he not been such an outstanding footballer, his off-pitch antics might have threatened to overshadow his playing career.
2. David Beckham - There is no doubting it, David Beckham is the most recognisable player of his generation. From a youngster with boyish good looks in Manchester, he has emerged as one of the most stylish, fashionable and sexy men on the planet. Playing in Madrid, Los Angeles or Milan, David Beckham is always front page news.
3. Thierry Henry - Whether it is scoring sublime goals or having a shave with Roger Federer and Tiger Woods, Thierry Henry definitely has “it.” After thankfully resurrecting his career this season with Barcelona, the future for Henry looks very “va va voom.”
4. Freddie Ljungberg - The sultry Scandinavian certainly got ladies hearts racing when snaps of him wearing nothing apart from very tight Calvin Klein’s appeared on billboards and in magazines. Although his football career has gone downhill since leaving Arsenal, his cheekbones should ensure that he stays on our radar for a few more years to come.
5. Alessandro Del Piero - The ultimate “Italian Stallion,” Del Piero has been breaking hearts for years in the black and white of Juventus. Happily married with two equally beautiful children, he is the icon of Italian football.
6. David Ginola - His reputation as a handsome Gallic maverick was enhanced during his time in England when he starred in a commercial for L’Oreal hair products, and many still remember the company’s slogan “because I’m worth it” being uttered in his distinctive and undeniably sexy French accent.
7. Raul - He is to Spain what Del Piero is to Italy. The ultimate club man, he is adored by Madrid supporters thanks to his unbelievable goal-scoring record and gorgeous Spanish looks.
8. Michael Owen - You would not want to take many footballers home to meet your parents, but Michael Owen might be an exception. Since rising to fame in the 1998 World Cup, he has had a career free from gossip magazines, which make his typically English look all the more attractive.
9. Bobby Moore - In our list because as the only English captain to ever lead us to World Cup victory automatically makes him a sex symbol.
10. Cristiano Ronaldo - If you’re into greasy hair, earrings, short shorts, tight trousers, leather jackets, offensive sunglasses, a horrible on-pitch manner and unreachable levels of arrogance, then Ronaldo is definitely you’re man.
